PacificSport Disburses $12,000 to Vancouver Island Athletes
May 5, 2016 (Nanaimo): 20 of Vancouver Island’s high performance athletes received over $12,000 in bursaries; including $10,000 from PacificSport and an additional $2,000 from Woodgrove Pines Clinic, at a ceremony on Thursday May 5, 2016 at Oliver Woods Community Centre in Nanaimo.
Identification and development of athletes both on the national, provincial and more regional level is a critical focus for PacificSport Vancouver Island. Supporting high performance athletes, and those up and coming, builds overall capacity within the sport community.
“Training, proper nutrition and equipment upgrades are a competitive advantage; and it can be costly” says Kevin Lindo PacificSport Athlete & Coach Services Coordinator. “These cash bursaries complement our PacificSport athlete programs, supporting the development of Vancouver Island athletes.”
The following athletes each received $500 from PacificSport to further their sport development.
North Island Athletes

South Island Athletes
Sarah Goodman – Duncan (Field Hockey)
Hannah Tuplin – Crofton (Wrestling)
Mid-Island Athletes
Alicia Fiandor – Nanaimo (Judo)
Aiden Grecht – Parksville (Cycling)
Alison Grecht – Parksville (Cycling & BMX)
Alex Grecht – Parksville (Cycling)
Ben Leslie – Nanaimo (BMX)
Braxton Clark- Nanaimo (Judo)
Drew Johnson – Nanaimo (BMX)
Erin Burrett – Nanaimo (Athletics)
Luke Hoefer- Nanaimo (Alpine Skiing)
Marika Van Osch – Nanaimo (Curling)
Mitchel Landry- Nanaimo (BMX)
Niamh Williams-Murphy –Nanaimo (Fencing)
Sarah Roque – Ladysmith (Freestyle Skiing)
Raf Korkowski – Nanaimo (Weightlifting)
In addition; four athletes each received an additional $500 bursary from Woodgrove Pines Clinic; those athletes were Erin Burrett, Sarah Goodman, Hannah Tuplin and Alison Grecht.
